Given that Sage MAS 90 is a powerful ERP accounting software, time will come that you need more users to access your system. This usually happens when your business is growing significantly fast. This is the perfect time to upgrade from Sage MAS 90 to Sage MAS 200.

5 Signs You Are Outgrowing Sage MAS 90
If you find yourself seeing any of these 5 things, you may be ready to look beyond Sage MAS 90:

1.      You need or expect to need more than 10 users to access your Sage MAS 90 in one time

2.      Your Sage MAS 90 system slows down or halts if too many users access at one time

3.      You are currently doubling the amount of orders you process

4.      Daily posting practically shuts down your Sage MAS 90 system

5.      You experience data corruption due to system outage for a whole day

If you are experiencing these issues and your business is affected, then congratulations! Your business is growing fast!

You shouldn’t worry about this as we have the perfect solution!

The Perfect Solution
Even though this experience is somehow annoying and frustrating, a wise man once said, “in every problem lies an opportunity”. This is your opportunity to move into a more powerful ERP system which is Sage MAS 200, the higher version of Sage MAS 90. Having a straight transition from Sage MAS 90 to Sage MAS 200 is fast and easy:

  • Both Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 200 use the same database; therefore, there is no need for any data conversion
  • Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 200 have the same features, functionality, screens and menus; therefore, there is no need pay for training and learn a new system.

Why upgrade Sage MAS 200?

As we all know it, accounting demands intensive transactions which take a lot of time. Even though Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 200 have a lot in common, Sage MAS 200 handles transactions in a different way compared to Sage MAS 90. Whereas Sage MAS 90 sends data back and forth across the network to execute transactions, Sage MAS 200 simply sends commands to the server where all transactions are done. This is the client-server or thin-client platform which allows Sage MAS 200 to run on low bandwidths with minimal data transaction across the network. This allows Sage MAS 200 to:

  • Support more users accessing the system at the same time (more concurrent users)
  • Effective in remote server environments – With a secure internet access built-in, Sage MAS 200 does not need Terminal Services or Citrix.
  • Capable of managing large volumes of transactions – Sage MAS 200 can process 300%-1000% faster than Sage MAS 90. Sage MAS 90 is good if you are only dealing with a few hundred transactions per day but Sage MAS 200 is perfect for companies handling thousands of transactions per day.
  • Higher security, enhanced data integrity and reliability – Simply because Sage MAS 200 processes all the data in the server, there are no data transferred over the network which prevents data corruption.
  • Leverage the power of a scalable server – Storing and processing all data on the server enables more cost-effective and easier performance upgrades and helps the system continue to grow with your business into the future.

This is the perfect advice we can give to everyone who are currently or anybody who is expecting to outgrow their Sage MAS 90 accounting software. Sage MAS 200 was designed for this purpose. Upgrading from Sage MAS 90 to Sage MAS 200 is definitely the perfect decision.

MTSI – Business and Marketing is Like A Chess Game

Archived in the category: erp, MAS200, MAS500, MAS90
Posted by: zelmar - 0 Comments

When I was a child, there were no home computer systems and for that reason we didn’t have computer chess games. I recall my father teaching me about chess in the household room in our basement. When I was a youngster, he ordered for me a computerized chess board which you could play against which was an actual chess board, not on a computer display. It was always astounding if you ask me how much strategy is needed to seriously play chess. It is similar with business and marketing relating to strategy to win. You constantly have to anticipate a number of steps in advance.

Let’s consider this for just a second. If you only know very well what you plan to accomplish today, how will you ever expect to achieve your goals and be successful? The answer is you can’t. You should have a future plan, a “road map” if you will. That is essential so that you have a decent path of where you are heading. So with regards to chess and business marketing, you will have to be able to adapt, improvise and overcome whenever your competitors does something unpredicted. To achieve success, you have to think and plan in advance and constantly use those 3 words outlined above… Adapt… Improvise… Overcome…

Needless to say there are numerous pathways to possibly take and there are no hard and fast guidelines to check out often.

You are able to say to that I personally love how chess strategy relates to business and marketing strategy. You are able to see it in the design of our website and blog. You could see that we incorporate chess in our company. e4 (King’s Pawn Opening) is the typical first move in the game of chess and must be in any businesses move when searching for a Sage MAS 90 reseller and Sage MAS 200 reseller. It is white’s competitive starting move and clears lines for the queen and king’s bishop and fights for control over the squares. Openings with e4 often stress violent tactics over slow maneuvering. Shouldn’t that be similar for your business strategy? That is why we at MTSI take aggressive moves when we do business.

Obviously you will find official rules in the game of chess about what moves you possibly can make. But expert chess players don’t really think about those points when creating a tactic since the rules happen to be 2nd nature to them. The rules are nearly invisible to them, because in order for them to win, it’s only about the strategy, not about the rules of the game. In business and marketing it must be same as well.

Business Marketing, like chess, requires a lifetime to actually master.

The exact levels of skill involving an entrepreneur and chess players is really distinctive due to the time dedication needed in both to seriously grasp, not only the principles and requisites, but actual application in different circumstances. In both business marketing and chess, if you happen to cease learning, you’ll easily see yourself at a loss versus competitors.

I also enjoy playing tennis, which additionally demands strategy and planning a move or two in advance. I discovered that the only method I can improve was playing somebody who was much better than me. It’s exactly the same with chess. If you play with somebody you can usually defeat, you won’t ever improve yourself. The same applies to business marketing. You will want to play with individuals who’re better or know more than you to be able to learn more and obtain an edge over your competitors.

You won’t ever raise your skill set if you choose to constantly play those less skilled than you. Similarly, in business marketing, you have to be encircled with a innovative, forward-thinking team that inspires one another to another level. Studying by yourself is essential, but cooperating with people at the next level is how you truly progress your skills and make your business more productive.

Using a proactive strategy is wise and what every business needs.

In chess, if you’re only responding to your opponents, they’ll be the ones manipulating the game, not you, and they’ll pressure you to move right where they want you to. Not effective for you or for your company. For your marketing and business goals to be a success, you can’t always be actively playing catch up, staying at the rear of the curve, and in a reactive way or you’ll never ever get at any place. You have to be proactive and be the only one positive enough to make your moves first and hold the bandwidth to try out to see what generates big results.

One of the ways this can be done is by manipulating into people’s emotions for success.

In the key element to effective viral marketing, Maki writes, it is emotional engagement:

“Human beings are far more likely to communicate ideas and information with others when they are emotionally engaged. Find the key issues that concern your audience and then inculcate them within your marketing plan to get an emotional response.”

There’s something related in chess. As an alternative of motivating other people to communicate information and ideas, you would like them to think with their emotions rather than logic. Only then will they lose sight of your long-term strategy and act on impulse. Bad for them, but effective for you. You can achieve this through a variety of methods, like purposely making an illogical move that could confuse a great player who anticipates you’re pursuing a certain pattern. See how that actually works to your benefit at times?

In this manner, both of them are comparable strategies in that they’re made to get emotions involved, but in various ways toward various ends.

The greatest players in chess, as well as business marketing, are similarly technical as they are resourceful.

Even though business marketing industry is quite technical in nature, creativeness is essential and counts more than the technical skills necessary to execute the numerous activities. Excellent chess players should be both technically and creatively skilled in the game. They should blend both in their game to win depending on the opponent. At times a game played with a rival who’s vulnerable to make mistakes simply requires being very technical with the techniques in order to win. But if you’re playing against a rival who is very technically minded, then it may need a creative approach so that you can win. These issues should also be looked at regarding business marketing.

You have to always use constant adaptation to win.

You will observe that the greatest chess players and marketers realize the significance of seeing everything they are doing as a fluid, natural movement, adapting/refining while they move ahead. Making use of the adapt, improvise and overcome approach. In both the game of chess and business, opportunities will show themselves you have to adapt to take advantage of them once they come about. Experience is how you learn best about the art of adaptation in mid-stream.

The chess analogy has application to business normally, and it is applicable especially well to business marketing too.

MTSI has designed its corporate strategies in such a way how a game of chess is played. MTSI also provides ERP solutions that can help businesses move advantageously like chess pieces. These ERP solutions include Sage MAS 90, Sage MAS 200 and Sage MAS 500. They are designed to make businesses become more efficient, effective and productive.

MTSI – Practices Chess Principles in Business

Archived in the category: erp, MAS200, MAS500, MAS90
Posted by: zelmar - 0 Comments

Ever wondered why MTSI is one of the leading resellers and partners of Sage MAS 90, Sage MAS 200 and Sage MAS 500 in North America? The answer is simple. It’s because the company knows what “strategy” is. To be specific, it is the strategy in the game of chess.

Personally, for me, I’m not an expert chess player; however, I do enjoy pondering about strategy, particularly in business. I like to connect how chess being the greatest game of strategy can even be associated with business and marketing. With the introduction of computers, it’s remarkable to think about all of the possible strategies because a computer can “think” over 20 moves in advance and how swiftly a computer can process data. In this post, I’m revealing once more how practicing chess strategy can aid your company develop and to turn out to be even more productive and smooth that is certain to have a substantial pay off. These same kinds of strategies have been employed by many companies all over the world, and this is why MTSI have applied these strategies to grow and prosper.

Even though you are not a passionate chess player, you will still have the ability to latch on to these concepts.

Chess has been in existence for more than a thousand years and as a result it carries a very long history. It was used to teach Emperors, Kings and Queens about strategy since it began.

Something that intrigues me with the game is how significant it is. You possess castles, knights, bishops, pawns and obviously the king and queen. Every piece in chess enables you to think back to mid-evil times. Perhaps one of the best means I can connect the game of chess to business and marketing is to develop several of that significance to each of the pieces. This must assist you to think of resolving challenges for your business and developing a method to still win.

Successful companies these days utilize these kinds of strategies.

How do we attack a problem in business piece by piece.

Let’s start looking at the castle, also referred to as the rook. It moves straight ahead, backwards or sideways. It is an extremely powerful piece. You can consider it like military strength. Think of it as size and toughness in business. It can also be a great defensive piece on the board. It can embark upon the offensive and sweep in swiftly over the entire board. In regards to business, this could be a portion of your market share for your company.

After that let’s evaluate the knight. In the earlier times, if you had horses it was an indication that you have wealth. And owning an entire stable full of horses suggested you are really rich. The knight or horse could be associated with the financial strength of your business. The knight steps on the board in an “L” shaped pattern and may even hop over other pieces. The place you will find the knight the most useful in chess is when it is down the middle of the board. So if you’re able to place cash into the center of what you really are wanting to achieve, you’ll be able to manage your situation. Nevertheless, just like with the knight, you must have an excellent exit strategy with your cash or you might lose it.

Now for the bishop. Here we’re speaking about politics, impact and settlement which fall under the bishop. Pertaining to your business, we might connect this to building contacts and networking. It will be managing several circumstances at your company or swiftly sweeping in to clear a challenge or bottleneck. The bishop goes diagonally across the chess board and may emerge from nowhere immediately.

Those are a few things that you can do to leverage situations to your benefit associated with connections, capital, strength and size. So at this point let’s examine a number of the strategies.

      Chess associated with business strategies

The one thing you have to constantly carry out in chess is maintain the pressure on. Each and every move you make you generally have to pressure your adversary to make an expected defensive move. In this way, it is possible to remain in control and stop them from taking an offensive move of their own. You would like them to be continuously respond and “putting out fires.” If you do so, they’ll be unable to carry out their own strategy. If you gaze at the world generally speaking, the USA appears to be very good at that since every other country has a tendency to respond to the movements made by the USA. It needs to be the same for your company to keep your competition on their own heels and launch your firm to the top in your industry.

Every single move you will be making matters big time. When you make the wrong move it’s simply a lost turn. You will probably be sacrificing time and losing ground, in addition to momentum. You can even risk losing control of the scenario and discover yourself becoming the one on the defensive and on the run. Just like skilled chess players, a brilliant entrepreneur must be really careful during the “opening” relating to the things they’re doing. However after you have won some advantage, it’s time for you to step in for the offensive.

In the game of chess, every single asset you possess matters. If ever you lose a piece now and you are unable to take on one out of your adversary on your following turn you could very well lose the match. It’s exactly the same in business and marketing. Business is equally as competitive. You will require every asset that you can gain in order to have an advantage over your competitors. Whenever you will get in front of your rival, the momentum usually accumulates and then it’s just like a snow ball rolling from top to bottom. You want to use every asset at your disposal. If you’re not utilizing it, then sell it so that you can turn it into cash so you can use that as your power piece.

One particular thing about chess is it educates you to adopt serious pressure and complicated circumstances and discover ways to cope with them. It demands substantial degrees of strategy. Just as if you can rely on gravity to make an apple drop on someone’s head, you are able to rely on chess to teach you strategy to help your business.

In business, the same as in chess, if you find yourself competing against somebody, you have to try to assess all the movements your competitor is likely to make against you at any time. Obviously you won’t be able to forecast every move, however the point is to try your very best. Then you will have to determine a practical counter move that will assign value to each of those moves. You will have to use intuition to be ahead of your rival so as to win the game. Just like a computer chess game, you must have a “code” which can be your “strategy” crunch numbers swiftly enough. Whenever your rival makes a move, wait if you can, contemplate and evaluate, then make your move. Occasionally, you are able to prepare yourself if you know your competitors very well so you can respond to your competitors easily, therefore, you most certainly will win the game.

      In summary

For the typical businessperson, creating a business marketing strategy is an enormous task. You have to be prepared to fearlessly confront all the inherent challenges associated with starting a new business and be prepared to take on all the challenges head on. The exception is the businessperson who is courageous, who’s prepared to take risk and has the common “get it done” mindset.

If we are referring to the typical entrepreneur, these people slip and slide all-around, seeking to achieve that evasive goal called success, rather than assaulting the task in a daring way. They take little step-by-step jumps, usually in the wrong course, rather than making use of strategy and planning all of their marketing moves.

In the world of small business marketing, strategy is similar to the real difference between checkers and chess. Even though goal is the same, the difficulties of the procedure for the game are way unique. Chess is a lot more complex game than checkers since there are additional factors; similar to the business world. Chess and business demands more planning, focus, effort and strategy. To win in chess and business also requires the characteristics of endurance and determination with many, many hurdles to find the way around.

In checkers, it is simpler and needs hardly any focus and forethought. Since checkers is simpler, it is sometimes the way in which the majority of businesses operate their marketing strategy. Very sad, but true.

As with the game of chess, marketing your business is a really complex task. Chess players foresee potential movements and will align their pieces in a way that every one fortifies the others on the board. The pieces are operating collectively for the common goal in a common strategy and plan. Your marketing initiatives for your company needs to be accomplished the same exact same way.

Every marketing step you make has to strengthen the prior move to be able to beat the competition. As an alternative of employing chess pieces you’re using your mission statement, website, logo, brochures, sales letters, emails and hundreds or a large number of other marketing methods.

The same as bishops, rooks, knights and pawns, each one of these methods each have a unique degree of usefulness and have to be used properly. Some tend to be more effective than others and really should only be used once the time is perfect. Others, such as business cards, aren’t as beneficial but have an critical place in the game and your business.

As a company owner you don’t risk losing pieces to your competition, you’re endangering losing business. Just like a great chess player, you have to create your strategy to win on a extremely constant cycle. It requires your focus, vision, and awareness to remain in the game ’till the end and emerge the winner.

Here are a few things you can apply on your game board for your business marketing strategy:

Remember to look into your customers and give them all of your attention. Fill up their demands with your distinctive product or service.

Remember to create a clear and brief marketing message. Be specific and consistent with the way you convey your benefits and features.

At all times regularly communicate with your target market. Create alternative ideas to consistently sell to your clients and prospects. Be acquainted with your target market, but not too obtrusive to become irritating and going too far.

Constantly cultivate your Unique Value Position (UVP). Find out where you stand in the marketplace and be conscious of your competitor’s movements to be able to stay ahead. Make sure that you’re reacting to their behavior not responding in an illogical, defensive stance. Remain on the offensive whenever you can.

Constantly develop a relationship with your market, customer, prospects and vendors. Become familiar with your market and make sure they know you care. Discover what they want and need via surveys and discussion.

Constantly market on a daily basis. It is extremely essential that your marketing strategy has a long view onward. Try to think 3 or 4 steps in advance by creating a marketing strategy and working on it every working day.

These are generally just a few methods for you to make your business marketing strategy but are really important. Always keep in mind that you need to think like a chess player and look into the upcoming by expecting what the market desires and what your competition may possibly do. Whenever you do you can take pleasure in positive results and win the game.

      MTSI’s Chess Business Strategy

Archived in the category: erp, MAS200, MAS500, MAS90
Posted by: zelmar - 0 Comments

I’m sure you have probably noticed the chess theme for this blog and probably wondered what it has to do with the ERP and CRM industry. One of my passions in life is business and marketing and in case you are going to do either one, you must do a lot of strategy. Chess is probably the ultimate game of strategy and therefore is a very fitting in relation. Even the how we do business has to do with this. e4 (King’s Pawn Opening) is the usual first move in the game of chess and should be in any business move when looking for a Sage MAS 90 reseller. It is white’s aggressive opening move and opens lines for the queen and king’s bishop and fights for control of the squares. Openings with e4 tend to emphasize violent tactics over slow maneuvering. Shouldn’t that be the same for your business strategy? This is the very reason why MTSI is incorporating a chess theme.

I have always tried to apply chess principles and concepts to various aspects of business and my own personal life. Thinking ahead and developing creative strategies is something that is synonymous in both business and in chess. I would highly recommend that you learn to play chess if you don’t already know how because once you start playing you will see very quickly how you can apply the principles and concepts in chess and apply them to your business, and even in your personal life.

Here are a few impressive and interesting things about chess:

For a long time, chess was only played by nobility and therefore was called the “game of kings.”

Did you know that there are more possible chess moves in a game than there are atoms in the universe? Did you know that there are more possible chess moves in a game than the number of seconds that have passed since the universe was created? To give you an idea on this, there are 10 to the 79th power of atoms in the universe and 10 to the 120th power of chess moves that are possible in a given game. Wow!

Each player makes one move each and there are 400 different positions after that first move. After the 2nd move each, there are 72,084 different positions. After the 3rd move each, there are over 9 million positions. After the 4th move each, there are over 288 billion different possible positions. Wow again!

Talk about a game of strategy. If you stop and think about it, your business is no different. For every move you make there are thousands or millions of different possible positions for your competitors to take and even your customers on making decisions about purchasing your products or services.

Gary Kasparov is well known as the world’s greatest chess player and here is a quote from him:

“Ultimately, what separates a winner from a loser at the grandmaster level is the willingness to do the unthinkable. A brilliant strategy is, certainly, a matter of intelligence, but intelligence without audaciousness is not enough. Given the opportunity, I must have the guts to explode the game, to upend my opponent’s thinking and, in so doing, unnerve him. So it is in business: One does not succeed by sticking to convention. When your opponent can easily anticipate every move you make, your strategy deteriorates and becomes commoditized.” ~ Garry Kasparov, FastCompany.com, September 2004.

Again, it should be the same for your business, just like what Gary had to say. If you want to increase your top line (growth) and your bottom line (profit), then you must use brilliant strategy to stay ahead of your competitors.

This is what we do here in MTSI! We use chess techniques in over 20 years of doing business as well as when we take care of our clients. The ERP and CRM industry is always evolving, new technologies are applied each day, this is the same in playing chess, Just as a fisherman must watch the ebb and flow of the tides, a company like us should be aware of the changes in our industry. This is one of the reasons why we are one of the top companies in the ERP and CRM industry in North America. With our brilliant team of professionals, we work together as a team and move as one powerful force which is MTSI.

As a start up for 2011, allow us to share with you a story in which a company credited Sage MAS 90 for their increase in business efficiency and productivity. Although there are many accounting software available today, the fact still remains that Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 200 are still the most popular and most recommended in the small-midmarket class. It’s almost three decades and the name still reigns supreme. Find out why…

      A Brief Company Background:

      Company: Gotham Sales Company

      Corporate Profile:

      Headquarters

      Springfield, New Jersey

      Type of Business

Consumer electronics and major appliance distributor

      Number of Locations: 2

      Number of Employees: 8

      System Profile:

      Computer System

      • Dell PCs

      Operating System

      • Windows NT

      MAS 90 Modules in Operation

Getting rid of worries is what Gotham Sales Company does for its customers. It is a company that specializes and deals with warranties for the appliances which you buy for your home such as televisions, desktop PCs, portable gadgets, dishwashers, refrigerators, VCRs and many more.  What Gotham Sales Company does is that it sells these warranties to your local retailers. On top of that, it is also a representative for manufacturers of popular brands of consumer appliances such as AESP Connectivity Products and Fedders. Know how Gotham Sales Company made it with their Sage MAS 90 accounting software.

      The Challenge

The strategy of using or having a middleman to distribute the products from manufacturers was cut off. This tradition was done many years ago by some big appliance manufacturers. They intended to sell their products directly through direct channels to retailers which took away the necessity for representatives and distributors who have been pushing their products for a long time. Gotham, together with many other companies, found themselves in the cold with large payrolls and costly mainframes that are no longer practical. Luckily, Gotham had a lot of warranty jobs to keep a leaner, meaner business going strong but the shift in business direction would need reconsideration of the company’s staffing and computer systems.

Because of the recent layoffs which led to the lack of IS personnel, it was necessary for many non-computer professionals to tackle with information management. Gotham Sales Company was already using Sage MAS 90 running on their UNIX platform and were already happy with it. However, they were concerned if Sage MAS 90 can work well on a Windows NT system. Could transferring Sage MAS 90 in Windows NT allow them to transfer files without system failure or loss of data? Is it hard to learn Sage MAS 90 in Windows NT and could it be as reliable like the their old UNIX system?

      The Solution

Gotham’s external accountant suggested a Sage MAS 90 reseller with lots of satisfied clients on Windows NT. Danny Schwartzstein, Gotham’s president, spoke with many of these clients, and felt reassured that NT was a steady system. He also heard many good things with regards to Sage MAS 90 on NT. On top of that, he saw how almost anyone in the company can do bookkeeping jobs on Sage MAS 90.

“I’m a salesman, not an accountant or a system administrator,” says Schwartzstein. “I wanted an easy to use but robust accounting software to run my business on my behalf. If I think I’m generating X dollars every year, I would like the package to get the same numbers. Sage MAS 90 does all that for me. Any time my accountants come in at the end of the quarter, there’s hardly any that they need to do, since our internal bookkeeping is so accurate.”

Gotham now uses Sage MAS 90 to carry out practically anything, such as tracking purchases, inventory and collections. It prints invoices, shipping releases, purchase orders and envelopes. One extra bonus is that the new system outputs to plain paper, a far more effective solution compared to the old dot-matrix printer with preprinted forms.

A custom module also provides enhanced capabilities to their standard Sage MAS 90 package. When Gotham delivers directly to a customer instead of the retailer, the system module tracks end-user detail, such as name, address and telephone number. This information is printed out on the shipping release, saving considerable time over previous manual procedures.

Customer information is also provided to the retailer, who receives a copy of the billing data behind their summary invoice. Data is furthermore accessible on the internet. If retailers want to know about a specific customer delivery, they could call or e-mail Gotham, and obtain a fast electronic response with up-to-date documentation.

Because all the modules within Sage MAS 90 work in a similar fashion, it’s easy for staff throughout the company to input and process information. This is essential in a small firm like Gotham Sales, where duties will often be shared, and people need to carry out duties outside their regular area of expertise.

“If we’re trained on a module and don’t have to use it for a while, we’ve have got to be able to get up and running again quickly,” explains Schwartzstein. “Let’s say that my bookkeeper is in charge of posting receivables, and she gets sick for a week. Somebody else will need to cover for her, andoften that someone is me. It’s essential that we can transport knowledge from one module to another with no downtime, and keep the system working smoothly.”

Schwartzstein reports that the Windows NT version of Sage MAS 90 is a whole lot easier to get around in compared to now outdated UNIX version, and it offers more superior reporting functionality.

He says he’s found it incredibly reliable, as well. Stability has proved to be a nonissue. In six months, the new Sage MAS 90 system has never crashed. Data was transferred electronically, without a hitch. The new system worked wonderfully, in fact, that Gotham ran its old and new systems in parallel for only two weeks. The first month-end numbers came out similar.

“It’s incredible whenever you look at what you’ll get for your dollar now in the computer world,” Schwartzstein comments. “I invested about one-third as much on my new NT system running Sage MAS 90 as I did a decade ago for an IBM mainframe, if you include all the programming time I had to buy before. And I’ve acquired a lot more powerful program, that’s easier to work with, faster, and much more versatile. Now I’m assured I can expand the business to 10 times our current volume, add product lines, even expand to new areas, all with our existing MAS 90 capabilities.”

Sage MAS 90 ERP History and Overview

      SUMMARY

State of the Art, Inc., also known as S.O.T.A., first released the Master Accounting Series for the 90s (MAS 90) in the mid of 1980s (1984-1985) to offer more powerful accounting solutions to businesses during those times. In just a matter of time, MAS 90 rapidly gained popularity and significant market share through a successful reseller channel consisting mainly of small Value Added Resellers (VARs) and through majority of Certified Public Accountants (CPA’s). Many CPA’s during those days have tried using MAS 90, became efficient in using the software and endorsed it to their client-base. As further developments of MAS 90 continued, the software became more advance, CPA’s have more technological issues and concerns with the product and stopped selling the software. Today, the Sage MAS 90 ERP is resold through a authorized Sage partners and VARs.

Sage MAS 90 is mainly an accounting software solution when it was first published. However, as it was further developed, it became a modular basis for other industry specific solutions. Today, Sage MAS 90 features its flexibility in providing solutions not just in accounting but in wholesaling distribution, manufacturing, inventory management, CRM, e-Commere, HR and payroll, time and project management and a lot more. Sage MAS 90 has more than 25 featured modules plus hundreds of other industry-specific solutions developed by Sage’s network of business partners.

Sage MAS 90 runs in a file server environment which means that data files are shared with either a dedicated (file) server featuring file sharing services, or a single computer in a network rendering peer-to-peer file management. This LAN-based financial system architecture is a fairly archaic approach that for most intents and purposes limits the number of concurrent users. Sage documentation reveals that MAS 90 can sustain up to ten locally connected users, however, several seasoned consultants would advise switching to the more powerful MAS 200 if more than five users require concurrent access. Sage MAS 200 is functionally identical, but operates in a client-server environment running under Windows server operating systems.

Sage MAS 90 uses Crystal Reports for nearly most of its built in packaged reports and custom reports. Some of the remaining ‘legacy’ modules including Work Order Processing, or Job Cost still have ‘hard coded’ non-user editable reports, however, users can create new reports using the included Crystal Reports tool.

From a technology viewpoint, MAS 90 was originally designed in Business Basic Extended (BBX) and the solution has failed to keep up with the advancement platform and database technology advancements made by major competitor Microsoft with its Dynamics lines.

      VERTICAL MARKETS

Majority of Sage MAS 90 users come from almost every industry. They use the software for their financial and accounting system; however, industry-specific businesses using the software are involved in the manufacturing and distribution industry but not the more advance supply chain management (SCM).

      • Wholesale distribution
      • Wholesale management

      STRENGTHS
